If you are looking to purchase a new carpet but would like to estimate how much it will cost, measuring your room before you visit one of our stores can be really helpful.

Guidelines for measuring your room.

By using the following guidelines, you can work out your own approximate costs.*

*At Poplar Carpets we require exact measurements before you place your order. The following guidelines are for price estimations for carpet only. Please note that the calculated estimated carpet price will not include underlay or fitting costs.

• Draw the shape of your room on a piece of paper. Remember to include doorways, recesses, fireplaces and alcoves!

• Measure the maximum length of your room. Include fireplaces, bay windows, recesses etc. if there are any, and mark on your drawing. We recommend doing this at several points as walls can sometimes be uneven, especially in older houses.

• Add an extra 10 cm to the total of both measurements and mark on your drawing.

• Multiply the full-length measurement by the full-width measurement. This will give you the estimated total of square metres of carpet you will need.

To work out an approximate price, multiply the carpet price (usually priced per m²) by the total square metres that you require.

If the carpet is £25.99 per m² and you need a total of 8 m² your calculation will be £25.99 x 8 =  £207.92

Once you have your measurements, take some photographs of the room from several angles. You are now fully armed with the information you need to make an informed decision on your choice of new flooring!
